Christine Joy, Founder and Designer

I founded crystal jewelry brand Christine Joy Studio in the Bay Area in 2019. Every piece is made to order and handcrafted in California at my sunny studio. I design for women who are elegant, confident and with inner beauty. My collections fill the gap in the market by offering designer crystal jewelry, colorful and spiritual. 5% of the proceeds goes to our non-profit Glow Within Institute, which is dedicated to the crystal movement, using crystals to ignite the light within.

I'm an accidental designer. Five years ago, I started using crystal in meditation and I want to wear crystal daily for spiritual uplifting. I couldn't find any chic crystal jewelry at crystal stores, so I made my first pair of turquoise earrings. Turquoise is the stone for the throat chakra and it opens up the throat chakra and encourages one to speak up for oneself and speak the truth. I got many compliments everywhere I went, which encouraged me to post my designs on instagram. What was merely a fun hobby turned out to be something I built into a career.

In fact, I first founded a non-profit Glow Within Institute to lead the crystal movement - using crystal to ignite the light within. Then one day in meditation it dawned on me that I can sell my handcrafted crystal jewelry to fund the non-profit. I'm a late bloomer in everything and it certainly took me some serious soul searching to figure out what I truly want to do with my life. I was a jack of all trades and I love learning new things to satisfy my strong curiosity and to keep myself from being easily bored. After business school, I moved to Manhattan to study architecture at Columbia University. During the first semester, I designed a fashion runway at the sculpture garden at MoMA as a school project. At that time, MoMA was doing its first large scale fashion exhibition "Items: Is Fashion Modern?" which explored 111 items of clothing and accessories that have had a strong impact on the world in the 20th and 21st centuries. It was then I realized how much I was fascinated by fashion and the tremendous impact it has on our society. Being a good architect first requires "function over form" whereas fashion allows more freedom in creativity and relatively speaking, "form over function".  So I withdrew from architecture and went to Paris to study jewelry design. It's a dream come true that I get to do what I love today.

Every piece I design and make are filled with joy. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire process, from choosing gemstones, design, making, photographing to marketing. The many challenges of being an entrepreneur gives me the chance to build resilience and believe in my own inner power. I wish my jewelry will bring each of you as much beauty and joy as they have brought me. It is with your support that allows me to enjoy the freedom of being an independent designer and a free spirited entrepreneur.  Let's enjoy the ride together.
